Joseph G. Marrone, 67, spent countless hours gardening and cultivating a beautiful oasis.

CALABASH — On Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018, Joseph G. Marrone, 67, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving wife of 44 years, Eileen; and daughters, Christine and Jeanette.
Joe was born Sept. 4, 1950, in Bronx, N.Y. He received his Doctorate in Psychology from Fordham University. He spent his career as a professor at Siena College just outside of Albany, N.Y., where he and Eileen raised their family. He was a member of the American Psychological Association and American Psychological Society.
Joe was a kind, generous and humble person with a wry sense of humor. He loved going to the races in Saratoga, listening to a wide range of music, and had a lifelong love of watching the New York Yankees. Every summer, he spent countless hours gardening and cultivating a beautiful “oasis” in Latham for the family to enjoy. He was also a great cook, and was famous for his pasta sauce.
Joe and Eileen had many adventures traveling and cruising the world together. Joe was a truly devoted family man and was happiest with his three girls.
Since retiring to Calabash in 2012, Joe became involved in a number of activities; such as, serving on the Board of the Woodlands Homeowners Association at Crow Creek. He was an active member and the webmaster for both the Calabash Elks and the Ocean Isle Chapter of the American Wine Society. Joe took great pleasure in developing questions for the Elks monthly trivia nights. He developed many meaningful friendships through these groups and had many days of laughter and joy with his new friends.
He is survived by his wife, Eileen; daughters, Christine Marrone and Jeanette Borden; sisters, Joanne Walsh and Helen Gill; and many nieces and nephews. As Eileen was the oldest child in her family, Joe was also truly a brother to her siblings, Tommy, Patty and Maura and uncle to their children.
Friends and family are invited to honor Joe’s memory at a celebration of life from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 14, at Crow Creek Restaurant, 490 South Crow Creek Drive, Calabash.
